VIDEO: Labour deputy leadership hopeful Dawn Butler visits Blackpool to share vision for the future

Dawn Butler, MP for Brent and Shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities, met with supporters at the Labour offices on Talbot Road yesterday.

It followed previous campaign visits to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Oxford and Coventry.

In her campaign, Ms Butler said: “The Labour Party needs to build the most powerful campaigning and organising force in our country’s history.

“With me as your deputy we will campaign all year round, campaign for everything, whether it be councillors, mayors, police and crime commissioners, we will campaign all year round.”

She is among five Labour MPs nominated for deputy leadership.

Dr Rosena Allin-Khan, Richard Burgon, Edinburgh Ian Murray and Angela Rayner are also in the running for the role, replacing Tom Watson.

Chris Webb, Labour Party candidate for Blackpool North and Cleveleys, said: “It’s important that all candidates standing for leadership come out to the towns across the country and listen to not only Labour Party members but the public about the recent elections, and why we lost.

"Dawn came to Blackpool, Angela Rayner visited numerous times in the run-up to the election, and we've also had visits from Rebecca Long-Bailey and Lisa Nandy. It's great that we have got so many strong politicians campaigning in our town.

“Our members were really engaged with talking with Dawn, asking about her vision for the party going forward. We have had wide debates in the party about who to nominate as leader and deputy, which has brought the party together after an historic defeat, and we can now start to rebuild the Labour party in Blackpool.”
