People living on Burford Close, Normoss, say the scheme to redevelop land on Dinmore Avenue at Grange Park will lead to a loss of privacy for their homes.

A planning application submitted to Wyre Council by SEP Properties based in Dudley in the West Midlands, is seeking permission to build two retail units with 21 apartments above.

The site was occupied by the Dinmore Pub until it was demolished in 2017 after closing in July 2013.

John Lanes, representing some of the residents of Burford Close, said: “There will be a loss of privacy due to the proposed flats being four storeys high, and we will be constantly ovelooked by the residents.

“The Dinmore Pub was not as big as the flats which the developer wants to build there now.

“It will reduce the afternoon sun coming into our gardens, while there are also concerns having a convenience store will increase activity from kids hanging about.

“We are not against the site being redeveloped, or with it being a residential development, but we just feel the scale of this proposal is far too big.”

Most of the site is within Blackpool Council’s jurisdiction, but plans have also been submitted to Wyre which has published the application on its website, because a small area is within its jurisdiction.

Around half a dozen objections have been submitted so far.

Planning documents accompanying the application say the proposal would make “effective use of brownfield land”, while delivering “a contemporary and innovative new building in this location where there is an identified need for development of the nature being proposed.”

The applicant adds: “Occupants of both the existing dwellings surrounding the site and the proposed apartments would have or would continue to enjoy good standards of amenity in terms of privacy, outlook, daylight and sunlight.”
