If it is approved, the order would enable the stopping up of the relevant parts of Adelaide Street, Tower Street and Coronation Street meaning these areas will cease to be part of the highway, road or footpath.

Details were revealed in a public notice published in The Blackpool Gazette. Objections should be emailed to [email protected] by March 31.

A Blackpool Council spokesperson said: “There are no current plans to close any of the roads surrounding Tower Street Car Park.

“The public notice is in relation to preparatory works that are being undertaken before construction can start on site at the Houndshill phase two development, the date of which is dependent on the completion of some initial utilities works.”

The development will include a new Wilko store, a nine-screen cinema complex and two restaurants.

Constuction work is due to be completed by next spring and was kickstarted through £5m of funding from the Government’s Covid 19 Getting Building Fund, formally approval by the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership (LEP) in October last year.

Blackpool Council will fund the balance of the scheme through prudential borrowing.
