Preesall Playing Fields, on Lancaster Road, will be upgraded to encourage more people in the area to make use of it.

The amenity has already seen the addition of a multi use games area, a BMX track and a youth shelter within the past decade, thanks to fundraising endeavours by the Friends of Preesall Park.

The latest phases will involve the creation of a perimeter pathway to enable people to avoid stepping onto muddy grass, play equipment known as a “half pipe” and an outdoor gym for multi-age groups.

Now Wyre Council, which owns the amenity, has agreed that the latest pots of funding should be accepted for these next phases and that the scheme be included in the authority’s 2020/21 capital programme.

Funds have come from the Lancashire Environment Fund (£23,921) with another Friends of Preesall Park contribution of £5,000, and £45,149 from a S106 contribution from developers.

Phil Orme (inset), chairman of the Friends group and also a Wyre councillor, said: “The improvements will benefit all age groups locally.”
