A neighbourhood bar is seeking to extend its opening hours – but the operators will have to appear before a town hall hearing first.

Craig Scott Allen has applied to Blackpool Council for permission to serve alcohol at Ronnie’s Bar and Eatery on Whitegate Drive for an extra hour on weekdays – meaning it would close at midnight.

But an objection to the application claims the bar is creating a noise disturbance in the area and is calling for the extension to be refused.

The venue can already sell booze until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, but currently must close at 11pm Sundays to Thursdays.

A licensing hearing will be held on Tuesday June 13 at the town hall to determine the application.

The objector says while the outside sitting area should close at 10pm, “there are still people “sitting and standing outside drinking until midnight.”

They add “there are also people sat shouting in the seating area around 1am”, and claims doors are left open which “is causing noise disturbance for all residential neighbours.”

Documents submitted with the application say: “We wish to have consistency with the opening hours with a terminal hour of midnight seven days per week, other than the flexibility that already exists for bank holidays which I wish to remain the same.

“There is no proposal to extend the hours relating to regulated entertainment, this variation is to extend the alcohol sales during the week only.”

The outdoor seating area would continue to close at 10pm each night.

The premises has held an alcohol licence since November 2020.
