Homes plan for former Blackpool brewery site

Plans have been approved to redevelop a key Blackpool site with new housing.

The scheme will see eight two-bedroomed terraced houses built on the site of the former Co-operative Dairy complex on George Street, close to the junction with Coleridge Road.

At one point the site was also home to the Blackpool Brewery, but all buildings were demolished a number of years ago.

Town hall planners, who approved the application using delegated powers, said the former dairy building “had architectural merit and was locally listed.”

But the cleared site was now having “a detrimental impact on the appearance of the area. ”

The decision notice added: “The redevelopment of the site therefore will have a positive visual impact on the streetscene and have a beneficial visual and regenerative benefit on the wider area, and this weighs strongly in favour of the scheme.”
