Plans have been submitted to the council seeking permission to knock down the house and stables at the corner of School Road and Common Edge Road in South Shore.
This would enable a stretch of Common Edge Road to be widened as part of work to provide a new access to Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone.

It would mean the loss of a house which has been a landmark on the junction since it was built around 60 years ago and at one time included a small shop.
Architects Cassidy and Ashton, who are are working with the council on the development of the Enterprise Zone, say the proposed new four bedroom property is appropriate for the site.
But they add the scheme “would also facilitate wider highway infrastructure works proposed at the junction of Common Edge Road and School Road.

“These wider infrastructure works are considered necessary as they would improve the existing highways infrastructure and aid in enhancing the development of the adjacent enterprise zone by creating an alternative and improved highways access.
“In turn this would support wider regeneration objectives for the borough. ”
A new entrance road to the enterprise zone on the east side near Common Edge Road is seen as crucial with some businesses on the site saying the current single existing access is a bottleneck at peak times.
