Jubilee councillor Rob Fail said he hoped the empty restaurant would be replaced by new tenants very soon, in a bid to prevent vandalism and restore jobs.

It comes after Pizza Hut announced its Cleveleys restaurant would be one of its coronavirus casualties, citing "a significant disruption to profits" as one of the reasons behind its permanent closure.

Coun Fail said: "After the closure of the Jubilee Park pub earlier in the year, the loss of Pizza Hut is yet another blow to the economy of Cleveleys, and it’s obviously devastating news for those who will lose their jobs.

"I’m really hoping that the Government re-think their blanket withdrawal of the furlough scheme, otherwise we may well see other businesses go to the wall.

"We have to hope that new tenants can be found very soon providing much needed local jobs, and at the same time sparing us from the vandalism that we encountered a couple of years ago when the pub closed."

A total of 29 Pizza Hut restaurants in the UK will close, with the hope that staff can be "redeployed to minimise disruption."
