Boris Johnson is set to reveal plans to reopen Blackpool's tourism industry

The Prime Minister met with senior Cabinet colleagues, chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance and chief medical officer for England Professor Chris Whitty yesterday ahead of outlining the plans to Parliament for pubs, restaurants, hotels and hairdressers.
Guidance is expected to published for each sector on how businesses can reduce the spread of Covid-19 when they reopen.

Hide AdAnd the public are also expected to be warned that the newest relaxation of rules will be the first to be reversed if there are widespread breaches that prompt the virus to spread uncontrollably.
A No 10 spokesman said: “The reason we are able to move forward this week is because the vast majority of people have taken steps to contain the virus.
“The more we open up, the more important it is that everyone follows the social-distancing rules.
“We will not hesitate to put the handbrake on to stop the virus running out of control.”

Hide AdAhead of the announcements, some of the resort’s tourism leaders have said they will be ready to reopen.
Kate Shane, head of the Blackpool cluster of attractions for Merlin, inset, said: “We are hopeful for July 4. We’re ready for positive news and this town needs it - we need to get some cash in.
“There is a phased business approach in place and it’s important for our teams and customers we get it right so we can build continuity going forward.
“Our staff, the team have been so amazing and there is a genuine excitement to get back. They are a great bunch of people, who love what they do and it’s important for well being too.

Hide Ad“The industry has never suffered anything on a scale like this - the nature of entertainment is all about creating experiences and making people smile.
“That’s exactly what we want to get back to doing - opening our doors and to see people enjoying themselves again in our wonderful town. We want to see positive outcomes.”
Elaine Smith, president of StayBlackpool, said: “We’re all gearing to July 4, but understand it still presents concern and caution for those travelling. The thing about this season is we know we can’t make a profit what we are trying to do now is minimise losses and make sure businesses survive this.
