Blackpool golfers back on course

Golfers are teeing off at Blackpool’s only municipal course after being allowed back on the greens again.

Players wanting to use the 18-hole council-owned Stanley Park course must book in advance, two players at a time and rounds set off at eight to 10-minute intervals.

Demand was brisk on the first day of play since lockdown measures were eased but slots are available.

Course manager Sharon Brookes said: “We have got a marshall to check people are keeping up with the pace of play and keeping their distance, and we are doing everything we can so people can stay safe and enjoy the sport they love.

“We have been very busy on our first day but we are releasing more slots.

“We’re asking people to book online as much as possible but they can also phone our booking office.

“The clubhouse is shut so players should bring their own drinks and hand sanitisers.”

Among the first players out on the course were Stanley Park club members Christine and Bernard Knights from Marton.

Christine said: “It was really good to play again and to be out in the fresh air.

“We’ve been walking, but didn’t realise how much we had missed the exercise of golf, and it’s good for the mind too as you have to concentrate.

“Everything was very well managed and it felt very safe with people setting off at eight minute intervals.”

Bookings can be made online through sites including BRS Golf, Golfnow and Tee Off Times or call the course on 01253 302613.
