Police rescue man from sea in Blackpool

A man has been rescued by police officers after he was spotted struggling in the sea in Blackpool this morning (July 14).

Police, paramedics and rescue crews from HM Coastguard and RNLI Blackpool were called to the beach, close to the Prom lifeboat station at around 4am.

Their reports suggested that a man had entered the water close to Central Pier.

As lifeboats were being prepped for launch, police officers spotted him and rushed to his rescue, bringing him safely to shore.

The man was then placed into the care of waiting paramedics before being taken to Blackpool Vic for treatment.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at 3.45am to reports of a concern for a man's welfare in Vance Road, Blackpool.

"The coastguard and the ambulance service also attended the scene.

"A man was carried off the beach and taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

"He has since been discharged."

A spokesman for HM Coastguard added: "We were called out at 4am this morning (July 14) to assist Blackpool Police with an incident in Blackpool close to the RNLI Station.

"As we arrived on scene, fortunately the casualty was assisted to safety by the police and was passed into the care of North West Ambulance Service."
