Police have arrested a 31 year old man in Fleetwood on suspicion of burglary in a dwelling - but have made an appeal against speculation on local social media.

There have been reports on Facebook about the incident in question and some residents in the town have expressed anger about the alleged involvement of illegal immigrants in relation to the matter.

“We ask that speculation online is avoided and allow our officers to continue their enquiries.”

Blackpool North and Fleetwood MP, Lorraine Beavers issued a statement, saying: “I have been made aware of reports circulating on social media regarding criminal behaviour on Blakiston Street in Fleetwood and I have been in contact with Lancashire Police about this.

“The police are investigating as a matter of priority but they can only look into incidents that are reported to them. They have asked me to call for residents who have witnessed criminal behaviour to report it to them immediately.”
