Pink C-cup cakes raising loot for cancer charity
Cheeky chaps at Notarianni Ice Cream invented an eye-catching way to raise cash for cancer care.
Pink cupcakes made to look like human breasts were on sale at the world-famous ice cream parlour on Waterloo Road to raise money for Breast Cancer Care.
Notarianni shop manager Luca Vettese, 23, organised the fund-raising event after being inspired by his mum Rita, 50, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2013.
Luca said: “Cancer affects your life massively. You don’t ever expect it to be you or one of your family members, so when you hear that news it turns your world upside down.
“But it also shows you just how nice people can be.
“That’s the amazing thing about cancer – that something so terrible can bring out the best in people.”
The parlour raised £290 for Breast Cancer Care in honour of Rita, who was given the all clear in July 2014.
The cash will go towards providing care, information and support to people affected by breast cancer.
Luca said: “We raised £209 last year so we had a big increase, just from selling cupcakes on the counter.
“We like to promote breast cancer awareness any way we can to show our support. It’s something we’ve done ever since mum was diagnosed.
“People were loving it and they were very supportive.
“People were tweeting about it and some people didn’t even want a cake, they just wanted to donate the money.
“One lad came in and donated £20 out of his own money.
“It really shows the good in people.”
