Peter Kay gatecrashes BBC North West Tonight weather report from Blackpool meteorologist live on air

“Go on Molly, I’ll sit here, I’ll not disturb you.”

Comedian Peter Kay gatecrashed a BBC weather report live on air after appearing on screen during a broadcast by BBC North West Tonight’s Blackpool-born meteorologist Molly Brewer.

Kay, 53, walked in front of the camera while Brewer was presenting her weather report on Wednesday. She had been telling viewers that a yellow weather warning was in force for the following day when the Phoenix Nights star, who had been a guest on the programme, appeared.

Kay then sat down on the floor and said: “Go on Molly, I’ll sit here, I’ll not disturb you.”

Brewer tried to contain her laughter as she continued with the report. She also handed Kay her clicker, allowing him to change the graphics on screen before the end of the forecast. With rain expected over the coming days, Kay advised viewers to “get your central heating on now”.

It is not the first time Kay has interrupted a weather report. In 2011, he crawled onto the screen while the late Dianne Oxberry was presenting the forecast for BBC North West Tonight. Oxberry joked at the time she would “come to one of your concerts and come on stage and just creep in alongside you”.

Kay has spent the last four years on a record-breaking arena tour, which is due to end in November at Blackpool’s Opera House. All the proceeds from his 2026 shows will be donated to 12 cancer charities, including Children With Cancer UK, Teenage Cancer Trust, Kidney Cancer UK, Prostate Cancer UK, and Ovarian Cancer Action.

The Bolton-born comedian began his national tour in December 2022 in Manchester, marking the end of a 12-year break from touring. The tour also set a record for Kay as the only comedian in the world to have performed a monthly residency at London’s O2 arena.
