The screening of Car Share will take place in the Winter Gardens’ theatre in aid of Chorley children’s hospice Derian House.

Bolton-born Kay – a self-confessed fan of Blackpool – will introduce the series on the night.

It will be his third official trip to Blackpool in seven months after he ‘switched on the big light’ to launch the Illuminations and hosted two sell-out shows at the Opera House in November in aid of Salford Women’s Refuge.

Car Share follows the journeys of supermarket workers John and Kayleigh who are paired up when the company introduced a car share scheme and they are forced to commute each day to work.

But will assistant manager John, played by Kay, who also directs the series, get along with promotions rep Kayleigh, played by Sian Gibson?

When the show was commissioned Kay said: “To be finally working with the BBC on a new comedy is a great opportunity.

“And the idea of two people car sharing to work each day really appealed to me, as it highlights the comedy in the minutiae of the daily trek and allows the spiralling conversations of life to unwind in all of their glory.”

A short clip from Car Share has been seen in the BBC’s promotional trailer for 2015, showing Kay in a tight vest.
