Person pulled from water in rescue operation off Blackpool coast

A person was seen in the water off Blackpool last night, sparking a large-scale rescue operation.

Two lifeboats from Blackpool RNLI, coastguards from Fleetwood and Lytham, police and ambulance services were called to the North Pier on Blackpool Promenade at around 10pm.

The person was found in the sea near the Imperial Hotel, and was rescued by RNLI volunteers and handed over to the North West ambulance service.

At around 2am, Fleetwood and Lytham coastguards were called again to reports of a person threatening to enter the water near Gynn Square.

When they arrived at the scene, the person had already been located by Blackpool police.
