A person has been killed after being hit by a train on the Fylde coast.

The line between Preston and Blackpool South was closed for four hours following to the incident close to Ansdell and Fairhaven station, which happened at lunchtime.

Officers said the death is being treated as “unexplained.”

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “Our officers were called to the line close to Ansdell and Fairhaven station at 12.15pm today after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

“Colleagues from Lancashire Police and North West Ambulance Service also attended the incident.

“The person was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are now working to identify the deceased and will then inform the family.

“The incident is currently being treated as unexplained as officers work to determine how the person came to be on the tracks.

“The investigation is ongoing.”

Normal rail services have now resumed along the line.
