VIP launch for new restaurant at Blackpool Tower
VIPs turned out in force to take a look at the new £2.4m Harry Ramsden's restaurant on the Prom.
The eaterie, situated where the famous Tower Lounge used to be, was given a grand official opening complete with showgirls and the Mayor of Blackpool.
It is one of the new-look venues from the chain which is best known for its fish and chips restaurants. It created 100 jobs in town for which the company had 2,500 applications.
The brand also has a takeaway at the side and a fish and chips venue inside the Tower complex. It recently closed its previous venue on the Promenade. Negotiations are understood to be under way to find a replacement tenant for that restaurant.
At the official opening, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Coun Gillian Campbell described the venue as a ‘credit to Harry Ramsden’s, the Tower and the town of Blackpool’, while Kenny Mew of The Merlin Group called it ‘absolutely outstanding and a fantastic addition to Blackpool and the Tower.’
Mayor of Blackpool, Coun Kath Rowson, who attended with Mayoress Joan Goldin, officially declared the venue open and thanked the team at Harry Ramsden’s for having continued faith in Blackpool as demonstrated by themulti-million pound investment
She said that to describe the next generation Harry Ramsden’s as excellent was a ‘massive understatement’.
Joe Teixeira, CEO of Harry Ramsden’s said: “Because this is Blackpool and this is the world-famous Blackpool Tower, we chose this as the place from which to introduce the modern-day face of Harry Ramsden’s, wrapped up in something truly stunning and special – something in keeping with Blackpool which has been reborn thanks to investment, vision and a community working together.”
He added that the venture had come about thanks to work with Blackpool Council and The Merlin Group.
