Tia Woodall, 12, from North Shore, is in training to climb to Mount Everest base camp – a 12 to 16 day-trek, travelling to a height of 17,600ft.

Tia regularly takes part in beauty pageants and over the last few years, she has raised thousands of pounds for good causes – including children’s hospices and the Honey Pot Children’s Charity.

Among the challenges she has taken on are climbing Ben Nevis, a shoe-box appeal for children going into hospital and running a rucksack project filled with items for the homeless.

Tia enjoys competing in beauty pageants, which helps her to do more charity fundraising and spread the word about good causes.

She is the current Junior Miss Galaxy UK.

Her mum Leanne says doing the pageants has helped her grow in confidence and self-esteem and the pair want to change people’s perceptions of the competitions, while raising money for various charities.

Leanne said: “Tia is currently training for the next 12 months and she and myself will be climbing Mount Everest base camp – which will be a huge challenge for us.

“We will have an experienced guide, who has given us an intense training schedule to follow this year.

“Tia will be 13 at the time of the trek.

“Tia has chosen to charities to support – The Christie cancer unit in Manchester, which is the biggest cancer unit in Europe, and the Mount Everest Foundation – who support families and children in poverty. They have also provided support since the devastating earthquake in 2015, which affected the region.

“Throughout the training process we will be climbing Snowdon, Ben Nevis and 10 peaks in the Lake District.

“Tia has already in the past raised more than £10,000 for various charities.

“She is looking for sponsors to help her fundraise to take part in this climb.

“And if any local businesses would like to support Tia during the training and trek she will advertise them on T-shirts while training, on social media and on photos during the trek in Nepal.”
