Harry Hickson was born 12 weeks premature and on the unit for eight weeks.

During that time, mum Rachael and dad John came to grow very close to the team and say they felt so grateful for the care they received which has inspired Harry to raise funds for the team who helped him so much.

Rachael, who lives with Harry in the Preston area, said: “Every year we as a family always try and fundraise for the unit to celebrate World Prematurity Day but it seemed the right time to do something alone.

“Harry absolutely loves his walks and is really excited to be helping children who need the support and are poorly on the unit.

“We know that every penny counts the fund-raising is our way of giving back and saying thank you.

“The support and love from all the staff when Harry was on the unit was just amazing.

“The walk went very well. Harry did hit a very tired point around mile nine a but with a bit of encouragement and singing songs from Frozen, The Lion King and Jungle Book we made it through, keeping him going until the last step.

“He then enjoyed a well earned ice cream and a rest and has got a pin badge now saying “I have walked the Ullswater Way”.

Sarah Heydon, Neonatal Ward Manager, said: “We are so grateful to little Harry and his family for doing the sponsored walk to raise money for the neonatal unit.

“It is so lovely and rewarding to see how well he is growing and developing. The money raised will go towards equipment to help future families. Thank you Harry for being a super star.”
