Singers, dancers and stage stars sought to bring joy to care homes this Christmas

The Fylde coast's most talent children - from dancers and singers to gymnasts and jugglers - have been called on by a care home to show off their skills for the benefit of elderly people this Christmas.

The Knights Care Home in St Annes is appealing for youngsters to record their talents and submit their videos for elderly residents to watch on Christmas morning - as many will miss out on seeing their own grandchildren this year due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Kirsten Eley, who organises entertainment and day trips at The Knights, said: "We have got quite a few residents with dementia, so a gift they can actually see would be amazing. Last year we had a lot of dance groups, theatre groups and school choirs coming in to do shows for us. Now we can't have that, and with the weather being so cold we can't even hold any shows in the garden.

"We're now hoping that children will be willing to be filmed and send their videos in to keep our elderly people entertained at this very difficult time."

Once submitted, the care home will produce a compilation of all the videos which will then be shared online, and can be used by other care homes across the coast.

Kirsten said: "We have always had activities going on within the home, especially at Christmas, and with everything that has been going on this year we've had to think outside the box about what we can do. We can't go out, and we can't have any visitors in.

"Our residents love children coming into the home and we're hoping that it will bring them a bit of joy and cheer and make them feel festive. There's nothing quite like listening to someone singing in a choir."
