'Simply not true': The official stance on rumour circulating about the controversial delayed tramway extension in Blackpool

There may have been 115 defects spotted during the building of the tramway extension in Talbot Road – but tracks being too close together (or too far apart) is not one of them, the council said today.

The authority moved to shoot down rumours that have long been making the rounds in the resort.

“It is simply untrue,” a spokesman told The Gazette.

It was revealed today that the controversial project, costing taxpayers £22.8 million, is now not due to be finished until next March – almost two years late.

The delay was blamed on failed efforts to demolish the Wilko building where the new tram terminus will be built.
