Kind-hearted Dalton Gearing, nine, has been giving his toys away with optional donations to Blackpool Victoria Hospital's Blue Skies charity from his driveway on Carr Gate, Cleveleys.

Every morning, he displays his toys and books for other families to take as they walk past on their socially-distanced walks, with the option to donate to the hospital charity.

Dalton's mum Samantha Gearing, 35, said: "This was all Dalton's idea. He wanted to raise money for the local doctors and nurses who are looking after people around us.

"He looks forward to it every day, he can't wait to get out there and set up his things for other children to take, and nobody is obligated to donate but they can if they want to.

"He plays football for Layton Juniors so he's really missing playing and also seeing his school friends. But I'm so proud of him and how he's handled the lockdown, sadly it's becoming the norm for children now.

Staff at Dalton's school Manor Beach have agreed to match his donations when he has a final amount, and spoke of their pride in the selfless giving he has been taking part in.

Office staff member Nicola Baggaley said: "We're really proud of Dalton. he's been so focused and everyone in the community has recognised what he's doing.

"Being socially responsible as a child, so aware of what's going on and so thoughtful is amazing. As a school it's the least we can do to support him."
