Friends Josh Hayward-Jones,12, and Charlie Belcher, 12, were given a letter each by Blackpool Insp Dave Wilson after they pulled a mother and her one-year-old daughter from their car after it had collided with another vehicle on Devonshire Road on Monday 29 June.

A grey Volkswagen Golf and a white Peugeot 108 had been involved in a collision just before 8pm and the two teens went to help and were the first on the scene.

Following the crash the pair wanted to see how the woman was doing and they later found out she lived on the same street as Josh.

Charlie, of Raymond Avenue, said: “We went to go and see her a few days ago and she was really thankful for what we did.”

Blackpool Insp Dave Wilson said: “Charlie and Joshua acted selflessly to provide help and support to a mother and her child. It is an honour to be able to recognise their brave actions.

“There has been negative coverage about the behaviour of some young people in the area at the moment so it is fitting that we are able to take the time to recognise the positive actions of some of our local boys.”

Emergency services attended the crash but no one suffered any serious injuries in the collision.

Police inquiries are still ongoing into the incident after two males who were in the Golf ran away from the crash.
