Life is one big adventure when you're a toddler.

And it was certainly the case for William, when we stayed at Troutbeck Youth Hostel in the Lake District this weekend.

Our special friend Ellie celebrated her 30th birthday by hiring the hostel out and inviting around 80 family members and friends.

And thankfully, you didn’t have to be all that youthful to stay there!

What a special way to celebrate the big 30.

Each family had their own room, with bunk beds and gathered in the communal lounge and dining room to party, surrounded by stunning views of the Lakes.

It was the biggest party William had ever been to – but rather than shy away and cling to my legs, like he normally does at parties, he was a complete party animal and enjoyed playing cars with the other boys and chasing the girls (...what a flirt!)

On the Friday night, he did a Cinderella act and stayed up until 11.45pm – the latest he’s ever been up since he was a milk-guzzling newborn.

The next day was fun-filled – with an autumnal walk, fireworks, a storyteller around a campfire in a wood and singing to the birthday girl.

And another late night – although it was clear William had peaked too soon the night before and only managed to stay up until 10.30pm this time around.

No wonder he’s got a serious case of bed hair in this photograph with the birthday girl... the sign of an excellent party!
