The 62-year-old singer, who grew up in the resort after being born in Dublin, said she met the Duke of Edinburgh at Holyroodhouse, the Queen's official Scottish residence, in 1997.

She said she was presenting at the Duke of Edinburgh's Awards and "of course ended up laughing with the man himself".

She added in a tweet: "RIP Prince Philip."
