Inquest opens into death of property developer killed in Lytham
A man killed after being hit by a car in Lytham has been named as Brendan Kiely.
Mr Kiely, 54, was hit by a Ford Mondeo in Ballam Road, where he lived, on the evening of Thursday, April 1, before being declared dead at the scene by a paramedic shortly after at 9.51pm.
The opening of an inquest into the exact circumstances of his death, held at Blackpool town hall yesterday, was told the property developer was in the middle of the rural road.
Coroner Louise Rae arranged for a full inquest to take place on Tuesday, August 10.
After the accident, Ballam Road was closed for six hours, from its junction with Peel Road at Ballam to where it joins Park View Road, so specialist investigators could work at the scene.
Sgt Martin Wilcock, from the police's tactical operations unit, said at the time: "This collision has very sadly resulted in a man losing his life and my thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
"I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision itself or the victim in the moments before the collision to get in touch.
"I would especially like to hear from anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage.”
"We are also appealing for information about some vehicle debris from a red coloured Peugeot which was found at the scene.
"Based on CCTV enquiries it is not believed to have been involved in the collision but officers are keen to identify its origin and reason for being at the scene."
Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log 1612 of April 1.
