Reece Slater, who lives in Fleetwood and has helped to get the service up and running, decided to support the cause by having a complete head shave.

The shave was completed at the wheelchair service headquarters on the promenade and Reece couldn’t have been more pleased. Following more than two years of planning, fundraising and hard work , Fleetwood is the first town on the Fylde coast to introduce a dedicated ‘beach wheelchair’ service.

The group operates from a specially equipped beach front venue opposite the Mount Hotel and offers custom designed state-of the-art beach wheelchairs to the mobility impaired.

At the moment the group have five specialist chairs, including one suitable for smaller children, but the operation is growing and based upon their phenomenal success, they will need more chairs. The team have been grateful for all the financial support given by groups and individuals, but always need to fundraise, and any donations are gratefully received. The wheelchairs are expensive and also need to be well maintained to keep them in top condition.

Reece said: “I want to thank everyone for all their support and donations at this time, and also Trimmers of Radcliffe Road for doing the cutting!” A donation link for anyone who wishes to contribute can be accessed via the group’s web page at www.fleetwoodbeachwheelchairs.co.uk.

Bookings can be made on 03000 111 003.

Strict Covid-19 protocols are in place for everyone’s safety.
