International outrage of the death of the 46-year-old in Minneapolis last month has seen hundreds of people have come together across the UK to protest for the Black Lives Matter movement.

The local protests, both socially-distanced and peaceful, will take place at Blackpool’s Stanley Park on Friday and Lytham Green on Sunday, both starting at 1pm.

The Blackpool event will start at the bandstand and a social media post promoting it says: “People may have concerns with the current Covid-19 pandemic, which is why the location is in an open area with room to adhere to social distancing. This protest is also peaceful.

“Across the UK and globe people are showing their support and peacefully protesting to show they stand with the black community and against the oppression and police brutality they face.

“Blackpool is such a diverse place and coming together to support, stand up and against racism is taking a step forward in the right direction.”

The Lytham protest starts at the Windmill and participants in both events are asked to wear a mask and take hand sanitiser.
