The branch, on Poulton Street, will be closed all day today to allow for deep cleaning to take place.

It is expected to re-open soon.

In recent years Fleetwood has lost branches of Barclays, HSBC, the Nat West, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Santander.

Prior to that, the town’s Furness Building Society branch closed, the nearest outlet being in Poulton.

The respective banks argued that residents from Fleetwood could travel the relatively short distance to Cleveleys for their nearest branch, but the loss of the amenities angered residents, particularly as many of these customers were elderly.
