Fleetwood Museum seeks items to capture life under lockdown

From colourful rainbows in windows, home schooling and deserted streets to official documentation and community experiences, the museum hopes to build a collection which will help future generations understand what Fleetwood was like and how it came together as a community in an extraordinary time.

Museum manager Ben Whittaker is already seeking digital items for consideration but he stressed that material items would be needed at a later date, when it was safe to take them to the museum. He also stressed that any display would be far in the future.

He said: "We are looking for examples from individuals and organisations, which illustrate life in lockdown.

"Whether it be activities that children have completed, homeschooling examples, shop signs to advise of closures or letters from official bodies regarding the virus.

"And of course footage from the Thursday clap for NHS and key workers too. Anything which shows what life is like during the pandemic."

This Friday is Fleetwood Day, an event which has been organised virtually. There will be a clap at 3pm to show solidarity in Fleetwood and clips from that and how people marked the occasion would be perfect additions.

"It will document this unprecedented time and in ten, 20 or 30 year's time people will be able to look back and find out what life was like in Fleetwood.

Digital items can be sent to Fleetwood Museum by emailing [email protected]. They will be considered and paperwork will be emailed back to collect signatures and permissions for photos and videos.
