Fleetwood health workers on song with fun videos

And the perky performances have gone down a storm on social media.

It began when comedian Peter Kay invited NHS workers to perform a version of his famous comedy video of Tony Christie’s hit, Is This the Way To Amarillo, and send in their videos.

He promised that some of these film clips would get onto Big Night In, the recent telethon to support those affected by virus Covid-19, which raised more than £67 million.

Staff from the town’s Mount View GP practice and also the Fleetwood Urgent Treatment Centre filmed themselves singing the song, with GPs, nurses, pharmacists and receptionists all joining in.

The Mount View staff were delighted when their song was shown on the TV programme and practice manager Helen Dingle said: “The idea came from a couple of our nurses, Sophie and Paul and we all felt it would lighten the mood and were more than happy to support such a worthy cause.

"The whole team were more than willing to be involved including, GP’s, Nurses, Paramedic, Receptionists and Administrative staff. It’s been great to see so many positive responses on our social media page and we hope it brought a bit of fun to all our patients.

"We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity and support from our patients, including messages of thanks, hampers, boxes of treats and lunches during this demanding time. We really appreciate them all."

Lorraine Moffatt, deputy head of the Urgent Treatment Centre, said: “We have all been working really hard during the COVID-19 pandemic and this was just a fun way to get involved in an emotional night showcasing the NHS.

“It was really nice of Peter Kay to ask NHS organisations to get involved and hopefully our efforts gave people a smile during this difficult time.”

And joining in the fun, employees at the town’s Broadway Medical Centre made a video of themselves singing a version of the Spice Girl’s hit Stop Right Now, with words cleverly changed to encourage people to stay safe in lockdown.

Practice manager Nicola Wilson said: “These videos are a great idea and one of our receptionists, Judi Adams, does dramatics as a hobby and I gave her the challenge of coming up with something we could do.

“The next morning she’d completely re-written Stop Right Now for the Covid-19 situation and I filmed everyone singing it.

“It’s been worrying for patients over the last few weeks and there have been quite a lot of changes all our staff have had to make to our routines.

“So this was a nice light-hearted thing to get involved in and get the message across. I know it's easy to start relaxing the lockdown but it's still too early to go back to normal yet."
