Ex-soldier takes on 76-mile run for Army charity

A former soldier is raising money for an Army charity by running 76 miles from Blackpool Tower to Halifax.

Eddie Towler, 53, from Leyland, served 12 years with The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, the same regiment as Sir Captain Tom Moore who inspired him to take on his challenge.

Eddie, who hails from Bradford, said: “It’s going to be tough but it will raise vital funds for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, providing a lifetime of support to soldiers, veterans and their immediate

families.”

During the first lockdown, Eddie ran 33 miles from Blackpool Tower to Burscough.

He he will now make the 76 mile journey from the resort to The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment statue in Halifax to reflect its formation from the 33rd and 76th Regiment of Foot.

Eddie, who has already raised more than £2,400 for The Soldiers’ Charity, will set off from Blackpool on April 2.

As well as working full time for the Environment Agency, Eddie is training everyday and can often be seen running around Leyland, Southport, Croston and Preston’s Guild Wheel.

Following his 76-mile challenge, Eddie will compete in the Cateran Yomp 54 miles in the Cairngorms in Scotland in aid of The Soldiers’ Charity.
