Jane Dean and partner Sean Lester crowned a month of running and cycling to raise awareness of the appeal, and inviting donations on line, by collecting cash for the fund around Lytham Green.

Jane, who met Bobby several times in her role as a singer on the Fylde coast entertainment circuit, is proud that their efforts have boosted the fund by more than £2,000 and said a big thank you to everyone who contributed.

The money has been presented to Bobby’s widow Yvonne and the statue fund, launched just over three months ago, is now rapidly approaching a quarter of its ultimate goals of £100,000.

“The feedback throughout was wonderful and we are so grateful to everyone who contributed, whether online or via the collection,” said Jane.

“We had great fun on Saturday and met lots of lovely people, from a distance of course, who spoke of their regard for Bobby.

“Bobby was such a lovely man and so much missed. The statue is a wonderful idea and we were delighted to do what we could to help the appeal along.”

More than 850 supporters have contributed to the fund, including £2,500 raised by Blackpool entertainer Kelvin Wood with a sponsored run every day through January,.

The aim is for the statue to take pride of place in Lowther Gardens, where Bobby was a patron.

Meanwhile, Yvonne is setting up the The Bobby Ball Foundation, a registered charity which will support organisations Bobby was so passionate about backing.

Lowther and the Blue Skies Hospital Fund will benefit, as will the statue appeal, and two all-star concerts are planned for Blackpool later this year.
