Beer buffs bowled over

Having already been selected as Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre CAMRA Club of the Year 2016, the Club has repeated the trick at County level to become Lancashire champion.

And cider fans have voted another Blackpool watering hole CAMRA’s Cider Pub of the Year for the area.

The Pump and Truncheon, in Bonny Street, Blackpool, has been chosen by the branch for its range of ciders and perries which were ‘head and shoulders above the rest’.

Presenting the local club award at the cricket club, branch chairman Paul Smith joked that: “It could simply be added to the club’s growing list of awards, but it is a true reflection of the consistently excellent quality and range of real ales available at the club.”

This was followed by the handing over of the county award by Lancashire area organiser John Webster, who said: “The club has yet again been a clear winner at Lancs level and I wish it well in the next, regional, stage of the competition.”

Accepting the award, Peter Campbell thanked CAMRA and said: “I feel slightly fraudulent because I have largely handed over the reins to my successor, Paul Lomax, who is very much into his real ale.

“We do not take any of this for granted or rest on our laurels. We enjoy providing real ale and more and more people are coming in to enjoy it.”

The club is currently gearing up for its beer festival which runs from June 17 to 19.

Presenting the cider award to Pump and Truncheon landlord Andy Daubney, CAMRA cider pubs officer Vanessa Gledhill said: “The Pump and Truncheon was judged to be a clear winner head and shoulders above the rest. This is not only for the quality and range of ciders and perries, but also for the great atmosphere.”
