But Amy Burn, personal stylist and colour specialist, at House of Colour style studio, based on Park Street, Lytham, has top tips for looking your best on the most romantic day of the year. And she says it’s all about the colour red.

“It should be in your wardrobe all year round, not just for Valentines. When it comes to being romantic and feeling sexy, red is the colour we all think of. From lipstick to the famous sole of a Laboutin heel.

“A unique fact about the colour of love – it is central to the creation of all colour and is equally continuous throughout the colour spectrum. What this means, is true primary red suits all skin tones and complexions. If you’re feeling tired or want to add a glow to your natural complexion, slip on a jumper or scarf in true red. You’ll feel lifted and your complexion will be brightened.”

Amy’s top tips on how to ooze gorgeousness this Valentines:

* Be bold and brave, swap the classic little black dress for a little (true) red dress.

* Do you feel like black accessories are too heavy for your complexion? Change to neutrals which look beautiful with red.

* If dresses aren’t for you, well-fitting trousers of a style you feel fabulous in and a pair of killer red heels will have you turning heads.

* Choose one of your best features and enhance it, whether that be lovely long legs, gorgeous curves or a flawless complexion.

* It’s all in the detail. Add touches with accessories and jewellery, that can be delicate and dainty or bold and daring.

Amy adds: “We all belong to a season depending on natural skin tone, and each season also has various hues of red; summer ladies could try cherry red, autumns glow in brick reds, winters sparkle in scarlet, springs look gorgeous in geranium.”
