Many people set them-selves a personal challenge on January 1, but Knott End artist and designer Laura Jones' was somewhat unusual.

The self-employed graphic designer and illustrator decided she was going to create a quick illustration every day throughout 2018, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

So far, she has not missed a day with her drawings.

Her sketches are sometimes topical, sometimes whimsical, sometimes seasonal and sometimes humorous.

Laura said: “I had the idea of creating a quick illustration each day for a year at the beginning of 2017, but it wasn’t until the beginning of this year I decided to take on the challenge.

“I posted the idea on Facebook – so there was no going back.

“I have received so many ideas of things to draw, but I still need around 200 suggestions, so would love to hear more.

“The amazing Forysth and Steele, of Poulton, offered to support my fundraising by helping with the printing, and now as each drawing is completed, it is available to order online as a pack of four cards, with envelopes, for £2 plus postage – with all profits from the sale going to Macmillan.

“Macmillan does amazing work.

“It is a charity close to our hearts, as my granny was involved for many years in the Thornton-Cleveleys Macmillan Committee and this got me involved in fundraising from a young age.

“I think everyone knows someone affected by cancer in one way or another, and it is great to be able to do something to support Macmillan.

“I’ll be out and about around the Fylde Coast throughout the year selling my cards, so please come and say hello, and let me have your ideas.

People can have fun with snail mail and send someone a card, or just buy some cards to put in frames and brighten their day.

“Meanwhile, they will be helping raise funds to support the important and amazing work of the Macmillan nurses.”

Laura runs her own graphic design business, Very Vermilion (www.veryvermilion.co.uk), in Knott End.

She also took part in the Creative Knott End event at the weekend.

The cards are available to buy through a web site sponsored and managed by Forsyth and Steele, printers of Poulton.
