Temperatures in Lancashire today have peaked at about 28 degrees centigrade and expected to fall to around 20 degrees tonight by around 11pm - so it will be a hot and sticky night. Tomorrow will also be warm, with maximum temperatures of approximately 27 degrees.

Across the UK the heatwave is expected to continue as 2026 became the first year to record temperatures of 35C on six separate days, and emergency services warn of “extreme” wildfire risks over the weekend.

Amber and yellow health alerts issued by the UK Health Security Agency will remain in place across large parts of England until 9pm on Wednesday.
