Angela Ross’ Blackpool Yoga is celebrating its first anniversary at the end of the month with a free taster session.

The mum-of-two had been teaching yoga at various locations before taking the plunge and starting her own business at its base on the Promenade at Bispham on the corner of Red Bank Road.

With some help from Blackpool Council’s Get Started business advice team, she put her 15 years experience to good use offering a variety of classes at the first floor studio over looking the sea.

She said: “It has not been without its challenges, it is different to before, when you take a lease you need to be committed and keep classes going.

“Get Started was really useful and I have been able to call on mentor Geoff Reeves subsequently who had been very encouraging and helpful went I have been looking for ideas to move forward.

“The setting we have here is wonderful, calm welcoming and relaxing. We overlook the sea and when the illuminations are on it can be a bit like Las Vegas with the lights outside so it has a lovely character.

“Since we started last year, we have grown with more teachers and classes of different types. We have four regular teachers plus others coming in to do workshops.

“We now do chair yoga for people who are not able to get down on the floor and some simple yoga classes . We also have a variety of other wellbeing classes such as gong meditation. We cover everything from the vigorous yoga classes where you can get a real sweat on, to the more relaxing, meditative, breath work.”

She said demand for classes had grown and most people taking up yoga had said they were interested because they wanted relief from anxiety and stress rather than the flexibility or exercise aspect. Unlike pilates, people come to us for the mind and body part as well as the physicality.”

She said they had plans to introduce parent and child sessions in the future.
