Parking woe talks D-day

In December, St Annes Chamber of Trade co-ordinator Arnold Sumner and businessman Andrew Smith presented a petition to the council signed by residents angry at parking facilities in the town.

The pair distributed 150 copies across shops and cafes in St Annes in August, with more than 3,000 people calling for a number of measures to improve the parking ‘experience’ for drivers in St Annes, including extending on-street time limits from one hour to two.

The petition presented to Fylde Council, which controls off-street parking, has also been presented to Lancashire County Council, which is responsible for on-street rules.

Mr Sumner said: “We want to improve the overall visitor experience for people coming to St Annes.

“It shouldn’t be a case where people feel they are going to be ticketed all the time.

“I visited Skipton recently and after parking my car, what looked like a parking attendant came over to me.

“It turned out to be a town ambassador, who was welcoming me. We need more of that.

“We should be showing consideration for motorists.”

Councillors will meet to discuss various proposals submitted, before introducing new ideas later this year to improve the situation.

The meeting is at the town hall on January 9 from 6.15pm.
