One person hospitalised after fire crews battle two kitchen blazes in Fleetwood

One person was rushed to hospital after firefighters tackled two kitchen blazes in Fleetwood in one night.

Two fire engines from Fleetwood rushed to a house in Shakespeare Road following reports of a blaze at around 11.40pm on Tuesday (September 29).

Firefighters found the blaze was located in the kitchen upon arrival and used one hose reel and a ventilation unit to tackle the flames.

The occupant was "fortunate to escape uninjured" as they had reportedly removed their smoke alarms, according to fire crews.

Crews were at the scene for approximately one hour and five minutes.

Nearly one hour later, at around 12.26am, four fire engines from Blackpool, South Shore and Fleetwood attended a second blaze in Kemp Street.

A pan, which had reportedly been left unattended, was found engulfed in flames in the kitchen of the property when fire crews arrived.

Crews used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel and a ventilation unit to extinguish the fire.

One person was taken to hospital via ambulance following the incident.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Make sure that you have at least one working smoke alarm in your property and check it regularly to ensure it is still working properly.

"Take pans off the hob or turn down the heat if you get distracted or called away from the cooker and keep combustible items a safe distance away from the hear source."
