Nine people were left stranded after being cut off by the tide in Fleetwood this afternoon (Saturday, May 30).

The group had reportedly been swimming with inflatables - one of which was in the shape of a unicorn - before being swept out to sea.

Volunteers at RNLI Fleetwood immediately launched their lifeboats to help bring the group back to safety.

Lifeboat crews have now issued a warning to beachgoers to check tide times before venturing out onto the seafront.

A spokesperson for RNLI Fleetwood said: "Please help protect your family and check tide times before venturing onto the sands and leave inflatables at home.

"The tide can cut you off up to three hours before high tide. Tomorrow’s high tide (Sunday, May 31) is at 7.27pm.

"Please, respect the water."

Multiple people were also left stranded after being caught off guard by the tide at Anchorsholme yesterday aftertoon (Friday, May 29).

One D-class lifeboat and an Atlantic 85-class lifeboat was launched shortly before 2pm by volunteers at RNLI Blackpool.

However, the stranded group were rescued by Blackpool Beach Patrol as they reached the scene.

- Take care near cliffs - know your route and your limitations

- Have a plan - check the weather forecast and tide times

- If you fall into the water unexpectedly, fight your instinct to thrash around. Instead, lean back, extend your arms and legs, and float.

- If boating, ensure your equipment is functioning and maintained

- In any coastal emergency dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard
