Driver ‘trapped’ in A6 smash horror

A pensioner who was in a crash that left him trapped in a car is in a “serious” condition in hospital.

The A6 at Bilsborrow was closed for several hours yesterday following the collision.

A police investigation is underway into the crash, involving two cars, which occurred at around 4pm.

Police said the man’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “An elderly male in his 70s was taken to hospital. His injuries are serious but are not believed to be life-threatening.

“An accident investigation team was at the scene and their work is ongoing.”

Police said there were no reports of anyone else being injured in the collision.

Motorists reported long delays in the area yesterday while the road was closed.

Models raise funds for charity

Models are taking to the catwalk in a bid to raise money for charity.

Operation Orphan, which helps to care for children all over the world, has linked with Blackpool and The Fylde College to put on a catwalk event from 7.30pm on March 16 at Heron’s Reach, Blackpool.

Road works due to be completed

Work is expected to be completed this month on improvements to the A585 crossroads at Garstang New Road, Fleetwood Road and Windy Harbour, Singleton.

There continues to be a compulsory 30mph speed limit along a mile of the A585 and a short section of the A586, with temporary traffic lights in place until the work is complete.

Man accused of kicking woman

A man accused of punching and kicking a woman friend as well as pulling her hair has appeared at court.

Denver Varley, 50, of Devonshire Road, Blackpool, pleaded not guilty to assault. He was bailed to March 20 for trial by District Judge Margaret McCormack sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court. Varley must not enter the resort’s Progress Court as a condition of his bail.

Fleetwood

Not guilty pleas in assault case

A man accused of assaulting a woman and another man has appeared over a court’s video link. Anthony Vanes, 49, of Walmsley Street, Fleetwood, pleaded not guilty to both assaults and was remanded in custody to March 25 for trial by District Judge Margaret McCormack sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Kirkham

Accident charge driver in court

A van driver accused of causing an accident in which a motorcyclist was knocked off his machine and injured has had a hearing of his case at court. Kristian Lewis, 26, of Preston Street, Kirkham, is alleged to have driven a van carelessly on The Green, Wrea Green, on April 5. T he case was adjourned by Blackpool magistrates.
