New year, new head at Fylde secondary

Andrew Waller, the new headteacher at Carr Hill High School, Kirkham

Paul Waller will lead Carr Hill High School, on Royal Avenue in Kirkham, from January.

Mr Waller has 23 years experience in teaching, having started out as a RE and history teacher in Bolton before taking up a deputy headship in Middleton and has worked in schools similar to Carr Hill in size and age range.

He said: “I’m coming into this role with a clear vision, to continue to build on the success that Carr Hill has seen over the last few years.

“I believe that the students are at the heart of this success. I want Carr Hill pupils to be recognised by themselves and others as outstanding young people who, by the end of their time at the school, are well equipped to go out into society and play a positive role.”

Chairman of Governors Ian Marquis said: “We are delighted to welcome Mr Waller.

“I’m pleased to say that Mr Waller is keen to continue to make positive changes, like those we have seen in recent years, and is dedicated to improving the school further. It is an exciting start to 2015 for Carr Hill.”

He takes over from former headteacher Patrick Earnshaw, who left the school in summer to take up a post in Dorset.

Mr Earnshaw’s new school, Highcliffe School in Christchurch, was caught up in a gun scare on December 18, after reports that a gunman fired shots at school workmen.
