New supermarket creates 40 new jobs

A new supermarket has opened its doors in Poulton.

Mayor of Wyre Terry Lees cut the ribbon outside the new Lidl store on Garstang Road yesterday.

Customers were given the chance to sample some of Lidl’s award-winning products throughout the day.

The new supermarket forms part of the company’s ongoing expansion and regeneration plans in the UK, which will see its existing store portfolio of 640 stores increase to up to 1,500.

The store has created 40 new jobs and boasts an in-store bakery, longer-style tills with dual packing facilities, customer toilets, baby changing facilities and parking spaces for both cars and bicycles.

The company has also made efforts to become more environmentally friendly, as its new electrical lighting system is made up entirely of LED fittings which, compared with a traditional lights, are more than 50 per cent more energy efficient.

Lidl UK’s regional head of property, Stuart Jardine, said: “We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing this new Lidl store to Poulton.

“It is wonderful for us to be able to create more jobs and investment opportunities in the area, and we can’t wait to start serving our multi-award winning products to the local community.”

For the first week of trading customers will be able to enjoy 30 per cent off the price of selected fruit, vegetables, meat and poultry at the shop, as well as certain non-food products.
