New £1m fund aims to transform community facilities across Wyre
Community groups across Wyre are set to benefit from a new £1 million funding programme aimed at improving local facilities.
Wyre Council has approved a second round of its Community Infrastructure Grant Programme, paving the way for £1 million of investment in community facilities across the borough.
The funding, which is expected to open for applications this summer, will help not-for-profit organisations improve community centres, sports hubs, village halls and heritage buildings, making them more accessible, sustainable and better equipped to serve residents.

The programme builds on the success of an earlier funding round which supported projects in Thornton, Garstang and Poulton-le-Fylde.
One of the projects to benefit was Christ Church Thornton Community Centre, where upgraded facilities helped launch a Family Friday Walking Breakfast Club.
The initiative has attracted dozens of additional users each week and contributed to more than 23,000 visits to the centre annually.
Reverend Damian Platt, who coordinates the scheme, said the funding had been “transformational”, helping families connect, improving school attendance and creating a welcoming environment for local residents.
Wyre Council says the first round of grants also improved access to modern community facilities, supported local events, reduced carbon emissions through building upgrades and created more inclusive spaces.
Under the latest programme, grants of £20,000 or more will be available for projects that extend the life of community assets, improve health and wellbeing, strengthen community pride and deliver environmental benefits.
Councillor Lesley McKay, Wyre Council’s resources portfolio holder, said the programme demonstrated how targeted investment could create “real, visible change” in local communities.
Applications are due to open at the end of June and close in September 2026, with charities, community groups, parish and town councils, and sports clubs among those eligible to apply.
