The new place is aptly called Greek by Night, as it opens during the evenings in the premises of popular daytime eatery The New Penny, on Tithebarn Street.

Greek By Night has been opened by well-established Fylde coast chef and restaurateur Chris Michael, who has been in the business for some 30 years.

He was behind Blackpool's popular Greek restaurant The Med, and more recently ran Othello's on Red Bank Road, Bispham, before selling up in October.

Greek Cypriot Chris, 58, said: "Since Covid it has been really tough and I decided to sell Othello's and take a break for a few months.

"I know Tom Jones, the owner of the New Penny, very well and we've spoken many times about me setting up there in the evenings.

"So we've decided to do it, and the staff there have been helping me.

"We offer the usual Greek specialities - our signature dish is Lamb Kleftiko, which is one of the most popular dishes out there.

"Our menus are inspired by Greek Cypriot food too.

"We only opened recently but we'll be looking to create more ambience here in the next few weeks."

Tom Jones, whose business was set up by his grandparents 45 years ago, said: "We've spoken about this so often and it's great that it's now happened - Chris is a major figure in Greek cuisine on the Fylde coast.

"We had an empty space in the evenings here for so long, which was a waste really, so this makes perfect sense.
