New data shows Blackpool Council generated over £73,000 from residential parking permits in just over 2 years

Annual council revenue from residential parking permits increased by almost 54% between 2024 and 2025.

New data has revealed that Blackpool Council generated more than £73,000 from residential parking permits between January 2024 and June 2026.

The latest statistics - obtained through a Freedom of Information request by cinch, the UK’s biggest online used car retailer - also revealed that annual council revenue from residential parking permits increased by almost 54% between 2024 and 2025.

Furthermore, the figures also show that the council issued 4,291 residential parking permits across the period. The number of parking permits issued annually increased by more than 13% between 2024 and 2025, rising from 1,612 to 1,829.

Revenue increased at a considerably faster rate, with the council generating:

  • 2024: £23,632 from 1,612 permits
  • 2025: £36,362 from 1,829 permits
  • 2026 up to 30 June: £13,475 from 850 permits

The standard cost of a residential parking permit remained at £15 throughout the period. Both first and second residential permits currently cost £15 a year. The most expensive annual permit available costs £400. However, the council noted that this applies to Harrow Place, which operates as a separate residential parking scheme.

Blackpool Council confirmed that charges under its standard residential permit scheme do not vary by street, zone, area, emissions band, vehicle type or number of permits per household.

On their website, Blackpool Council explains: “If you live in a designated resident parking permit area, you may be entitled to purchase one parking permit and one visitor permit. Please check the permit scheme table for details. Resident and visitor permits are priced at £15 each.

“This is a non-refundable administration fee and is payable whether the scheme you are buying it for has one month remaining before renewal or 11 months.”

‘Another expense to factor’

Ben Welham, motoring expert at cinch, commented: “Permits can play an important role in managing limited parking space, but councils must strike a fair balance between accessibility and affordability.

“This is particularly important as permit costs increase, particularly for households that rely on more than one vehicle. For anyone budgeting for the cost of running a car, residential permits are increasingly another expense to factor in alongside fuel, insurance and maintenance.”

Blackpool Council were approached for comment.
