Mums to be now have a single number

From next week, mums-to-be who need to call Blackpool’s maternity unit will have a single point of access phone number ensuring their inquiries are always dealt with in a streamlined way by a qualified midwife.

From Monday, November 10, any calls for pregnancy issues, including hospital and community appointments, advice or labour inquiries, should be made to (01253) 953727.

Janet Danson-Smith, Midwifery and Gynaecology Services Manager for Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said this new single point of access would ensure all calls are dealt with appropriately and would remove the uncertainty about which number to call for individual maternity services.

“The line will be manned 24 hours a day by a qualified midwife who will be able to deal with all inquiries appropriately,” she said.

“This will improve and enhance the service we offer to mums-to-be across Blackpool and the Fylde coast.

“It will also remove the uncertainty patients had about which number or department to call for the various areas they may encounter during their pregnancy,” Mrs Danson-Smith added.

“This can be so important when patients are worried or in labour, having just a single number will mean we can deal with all calls efficiently and effectively.”
