MP seeks support on water plans

The £12m scheme by United Utilities, which began in 2006, is moving into its final phase and will see workmen moving on to the Fylde coast, installing new pipelines to replace old infrastructure which is at risk of leaking.

The work is due to start next month close to the A583 near Kirkham before moving towards Blackpool.

It is hoped the new pipes will prevent water discolouration for homes.

Fylde MP Mark Menzies welcomed the vital improvements, but said disruption should be avoided. He added: “Unfortunately, this type of scheme can cause some issues around road networks.

“I wanted to stress to the project manager that this should be kept to an absolute minimum.

“Having spoken to United Utilities, I received assurances that this would be the case and that they were following a strict timetable to ensure the work is being done quickly and with as little disruption as possible.

“While this project has been long in the planning, I am delighted it is now due to take place so that homes in Lytham and St Annes will be protected from any discoloured water and any possible disruptions in service.”
